Interview’s done, now what?

Your checklist for the summer:

Keep in touch!

Make sure your physical address, email address and phone number are up to date on the Student Services Online website.

You need to read your e-mails and be reachable by phone.

Get informed!

Make sure you have all the information you need. Spend time on the Uni website and read as much as you can about your course of study.

Make a checklist!

Make sure you have a checklist of all the paperwork that needs doing and of all events you need to attend. We’ve included some important dates for you, but make sure you put them in your calendar for next year.

If you haven’t got a calendar, you should get one!

Sort your finances!

Familiarise yourself with Studylink. Find out whether you are entitled to a student allowance or student loan. Also check whether you are eligible for free fees for your first year. It is preferable to have this financial assistance during the semester so you can concentrate on your studies and don’t have to work.

The loan is interest-free while you study and the debt incurred is ‘good debt’ as it goes towards your education. You may also want to think about saving over the summer to put less financial strain on you during the semester – plus, there are also those unexpected expenses that you may need to cover: books, lab-gear and related equipment, bus fares, and some coursespecific costs (e.g. vaccination shots for nursing students).

Sort your accommodation!

You don’t want to start the semester unsure of where you are going to live, so make sure you make your plans now. If you are intending to live in student accommodation, please contact them ASAP!

Please also think seriously about how you are going to finance your accommodation – your student allowance will not be enough to cover it!

Apply for Scholarships!

Apply for all the scholarships you can. The number one reason why students don’t get scholarships is that they don’t apply for them.
